Through our partnership with SOWELA Technical Community College’s FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program, we are delivering unmatched opportunities for students to excel in the aviation industry. This collaboration combines classroom excellence with hands-on learning, empowering students to gain real-world experience and achieve their long-term career goals.
Program Benefits
- Paid evening full-time work tailored to fit academic schedules, enabling students to earn while they learn.
- Comprehensive, real-world training integrated with FAA Part 147 coursework to build practical, industry-ready skills in Aircraft Mechanic Technician jobs.
- A clear pathway to FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification, recognized as the gold standard for aviation maintenance professionals.
Key Details
- Program duration: 24 months, with possible extensions to suit individual needs.
- Work hours: Minimum of 30 hours a week per week during the academic year; up to 40 hours during school breaks, and must be full time hours per the requirements of the program.
- Certification timeline: FAA A&P certification can be secured just 3 months after program completion.
- Participants in the program will first complete the Airframe or Powerplant certification, depending on scheduling, and successfully test for that component. Once completed, they will move on to the remaining certification and complete testing for that as well. For each portion of the license they pass, they will earn a $1.00 per hour pay increase, providing a clear incentive for their progress.
- Additionally, we strongly encourage participants to pursue and complete their associate’s degree, supporting their broader professional growth. These benchmarks are intentionally designed to attract and develop top talent, setting a high standard for excellence within the program.
The AMT Program at SOWELA is a federally regulated Aviation Training School, certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). This ensures students receive top-tier training that meets rigorous industry standards. Participants engage in specialized aircraft maintenance training that prepares them to pass the required FAA multiple-choice, oral, and practical exams. Successful graduates earn their prestigious Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certificate from the FAA—an essential credential for a thriving aviation career.
